Is it time for the naps to go?!

I am being greedy as I have two questions, one post!

Ds1 is almost 5 and starts school in September. He loves his nap and will happily sleep 1-3 (!) hours after lunch depending on how tired he is and often takes himself off to bed after lunch. He has a history of waking v early and we have found naps improve this. He moves from 5am to between 6/7 am with a nap.

But I am worried about school, it's going to be a car crash! In advance of school in sept, Do I alternate days on the naps, limit to 1 hour on naps days (at preschool 2 days and it's a melt down by 4pm). I don't know where to start!

Ques 2

Ds2 is 2.5 and is and always has been a late settler, late riser. So he also naps, although take 30/40 minutes to drift off and will sleep 1-1.5 hours, never beyond 3pm but then doesn't fall asleep before 9pm! Which is a nightmare as I am usually in bed by 930!

So, do we limit his nap to one hour, alternate nap no nap days?!

The thought of 2x tea time meltdowns fills me with dread, they will also never make the bath!

Advice very very welcome.
