GM, Cruise and anyone else with LO's born around August/September 06' - this is a support thread for when you have no clue as to why your LO is doing the exact opposite to what they were doing last week and when you are thinking WTF????
Post on here and we shall all compare notes and comfort each other!!

Also wondered what you guys do with your LO's all day??? I feel like I rotate, playmat, bouncy chair, my lap all day, but I don't feel like I'm really doing much. I do spend time talking and singing to DD but not all day, and sometimes we break up the day with a walk...just wondered if anyone feels the same.

that's good to hear cruise, DD loves looking out of the window too - I hope DD settles to sleep ok tonight, last night was so hard but I did pray reallllyyy hard after 2 hrs and then she suddenly dropped off so I have the rosery out already
but she did sleep till 5 so that was good.
She is quite cranky at the moment (seems to be teeth) and has not napped well last two days and so has grizzled all day, v tiring.

DH got up with her this morning but I still woke after a little while as I could hear her refusing to nap

JJ- I hate to wish their babyhood away but it is so great when you can sit them on the floor/in a high chair and give them a few toys to play with - it alters their perspective so much

justJAM · 21/01/2007 08:05

oh cruise - not what you needed, what with my DDs teething and your DS's cold we have a right pair!!!
Just give him some medicine and extra cuddles.
I know what you mean about wishing their babyhood away I said the same to DH yesterday...over the last few days DD is realy pushing herself upright in her bouncy chair (which is great to see developmental wise ) but it is making her very frustrated, so where as I could pop her in her chair for a bit whilst I got on with something, she now get's ratty when trying to push herself forward, like you I am looking forward to when they can sit up and be amused by a toy. Is this awful to wish that way

jam - ditto the pushing up in bouncy chair! ds is grabbing things too esp dd's hair! It is fantastic to delight in their achievements adn would be even better if I had slept!
Is your lo sleeping better

She has been more settled the last 2 nights, but we all know how quickly things change cruise - I take nothing for granted anymore!!
It's defo when she is teething (feeling rough) that her sleep goes tits up...I have friends in RL whose LO's never missed a seconds sleep when teething/ill
She woke a couple of times last night but did settle herself back which is what she hasn't been doing, am praying she continues to do so!!!
Please don't tell me I don't need this thread - the last time ginger said that DD's sleep went loopy!!!!
Hope you have a good day (and night) I'll be back on tomorrow xxx

Have had people over all weekend so not logged on but just to let you know our sleep has been no better. We've been a well and trully grumpy household. Had a million things to do Sat morning before guests arrived and DH thought he'd help by cleaning the bathroom (first time for months) however, when he does he takes FOR EVER, 20 minutes cleaning the shower screen I ask you. He goes to town cleaning all the tiles and grout fgs. Anyway, friends came over and h went up a ladder outside for the rest of the day (fixing stuff) which meant I had no chance to try and get DD to have any proper naps because she wouldn't settle quickly in her cot and I couldn't do the usual bung her on the sofa. I didn't think I could leave guests for ours while I tried to get her to take a nap. So I was P*ssed off for him not taking over and helping and her not sleeping. By the evening she was soooo tired that bedtime was a nightmare. Anyway, cutting a long story short. DH said he'd be on nighttime duty and just pass her to me when she needs feeding. He reakons she woke 5 times between 11 and 2.30. Bull me thinks. I heard her once and I'm a much lighter sleeper. So even though I had to feed her at 2.30, and 6.30 and was probably woken twice in between I felt it was a better night. He's waking around like he's not slept at all that I'm not sure it's worth the pain of looking at him. I'd prefer to get up all night myself.

Sorry you guys aren't having much fun either.

Yummymummy- I also find myself awake and giving instructions to dh if he does ever offer to get up with ds. Im back at work tomorrow so god knows how ill manage. Actually that should be dh, as im making him share the nightmares of nighttime now. It means that all Ill get to hear about is how tired he is and moan, moan , moan but tough.
I feel that im obsessed with sleep and looking for the wonder cure that will get ds to sleep longer.
Ginger- Tell your mum that we formula feed are on solids and have ds in his own room and he still doesn?t sleep!!!! I just think some people have insomniac babies who need little sleep, or at least the babies think they do.

Here's a question to all you mums out there,

My lack of sleep started when i read and was informed that i should not let my ds get used to feeding at night and that i should wean him off night feeds. If fed he sleeps by himself in the cot easliy.
So after i dream feed at 11.30pm he wakes after just 2 hrs and then more or less every hour or 30 mins and will only be conforted if in our bed and held! I begining to think perhaps i should just feed him when he wakes at night and hope he stops the night feeding byhimself.
Or would this be a mistake as ' its just a habit' as books say and he won't stop unless i take action!!

Any ideas?

Hi, my dd was born on 4th Aug 06, and I am delighted to hear that we are not alone . DD sleeps ok between 7pm and 12 ish, (with a dream feed at 10.30 ish) but after 12 all hell breaks loose, sometimes its every 2 - 3 hours, but more often than not its every hour or so.Then come 4.30 - 5ish we are wide awake. We are co-sleeping and i am still breast feeding, though we have introduced solids too. Bascially when DD wakes I either have to pop the dummy in, or bf. Last night we tried something diferent,i moved into spare room and dh looked after DD in our bed. Apparently she was great between 2 - 5, and then when she woke, he shushed her back to sleep. DH thinks that she can smell the milk (sounds revolting I know) and so wont settle for less if I am around. Problem is, this can only work at weekends as can hardly get DH to do night time duty in the week!Napping in the day wise, she is very good: we are awake at 7, then she has two hours from 9am, another 45mins at 1pm and then 30-45mins at 4pm, but nights are still bed! Sorry post is so long.

Just re read my post. Bit of a rant wasn't it? I'm feeling better now.

Ash, just do what works for you and stuff the books. I've got myself so worked up in the past trying to follow the books that I would get upset with my LO for being so difficult. No one had told her there were rules to follow, she was just trying to make sense of the world. Thing is, these books are all written by nursery nurses that a)don't have the emotional attachment and b)don't work 24 hours a day like we do. I think just do what you think is right and what works for you at the time. If there are hurdles, cross them when you get to them. You might not get any. Enjoy your lo and if you don't mind feeding to sleep or co-sleeping then do it. Don't feel pressured to follow someone elses idea of what is right. I muddle through every day but I feel more relaxed for it than when I was trying so hard to fit into 'a routine' and a relaxed mummy equals a relaxed baby. (all be it still very tired!!!)

Hello all.

Not posted all weekend, needless to say I have been cursed by posting previously that DD slept the other night . She woke several times last night (and the night before), I think its her teeth as her little cheeks were bright red and so hot. I gave her some Calpol but she still didn't sleep .

DH drank mucho red wine and woke this morning thinking she had slept through .

She is in bed at mo, but can hear her griping a bit, heres hoping to a better night for us all.

Cruise, been meaning to ask. Does your DS use a dummy? We gave DD one because she was hanging off me all the time and it gave me a bit of respite. She now wakes up because it's fallen out but at least I can shove that back in and collapse again without a great deal of effort. We had to keep offering it because she didn't like it at first but it's a miracle cure for constantly shoving boob in mouth to quieten

Sorry to hear about your LO teething cc, my ds is going throught the same. Its so hard to see him suffer when there is so litlle i can do.

I too am having dh problems, since being back at work dh has ds a couple of days a week (depending on his shifts) as soon as i get in form work at 4pm he thinks all his 'duties' are over and does nothing with ds for the rest of the night including dreamfeed, putting him to bed tea feed, keeping him occupied until bedtime at 7pm etc.

sorry for the rant but it feels good to let off steam!

oh and ds has now decided that he wants to start his day off at 5.45am evry day!
rant over!

ginger - ds will not take a dummy. Though not through me not trying! I currently have 14 of the buggers in all different shapes and sizes but he just rolls them around in his mouth and chomps on them - never sucks!. I did consider gaffa taping it in but dd objected . In short, I am his dummy.... dd had one from about 6 weeks and it was a lifesaver but not so for ds...... Here's wishing you all a restful night

Reid, CC. Mine's teething too. Crap eh? She's been showing signs for weeks already despite health visitor dimissing it. She was proper screaming earlier and scratching furiously at her ears. Can't tell if thats teeth or tiredness tho.

I've told DH he can sleep in the spare room during the week if he takes over at weekends. I find it easier without him there to be honest. I get mega p*ssed off having to give him instructions so I'd rather he wasn't there winding me up. Funny cos he's such a bloke, big and strong and all that but he's a total wet blanket around the baby and he does everything soooooo slowly that I want to jab him in the ribs. It's like having two kids.

ginger - your dh sounds just like mine! When i hear ds crying in the night i try to get to him as quickly as possible so that he doesnt fully wake up, dh spends ages faffing so that LO is onto his fully blown scream by the time he gets to him aargh!

oh and my ds has also started grabbing at his ears, i think it is liked with the teething. i have also noticed that one of his ears has become a little waxy, which again i think is liked to teething, poor little soul.

Also an August threader...

My ds2 was born 2nd Aug and has been a fantastic sleeper....TIL NOW!!!!

Not sure if its my dh's nutty cousin staying or maybe his teeth but i have been found sleeping with my head on his cot and my arm dangling in....

he is asleep now and seems happy touch wood.

I'm glad its not just him. Haven't said anything to our friends as they would only gloat about their perfect little darlings....

Fingers crossed he sleeps through til 7....

Crickethunter, glad you could join us (obviously not under the best of circumstances). You're in good company as we all keep a very active night vigil! My lo was awake every hour (almost to the minute) last night between 10.30 and 3.30 and then settled 'til 6.30. Think it might have been teeth last night but that doesn't explain every other friggin' night. Bahhhhhh

PS expecting them to sleep from 10pm to 7am is far too optimistic for this thread
