Why reflux!!!!!

Hi all

Why is reflux such an heartwrenching, arse of a condition? My LO is suffering now back on omeprazole gaviscon aptamil pepti and today saw that horrible sign when he's bringing back milk through his nose. Thought I wouldn't see that again. Wish the doctors could see what LO goes through after feeds!!! How does everyone cope with reflux?

My DS has it although not as bad but it has had me in floods of tears many a time. He's 6 months old and some days it doesn't seem so bad now but then he'll throw up all down the top I've just put on

He's breastfed so the sick wipes off easily (although i probably stink of it without realising ) so I did get a bit resentful of him literally throwing back all my hard work in my face (or cleavage!). Once I realised he was happy most of the time, developing well and alert (very alert) I began to chill out a lot more. Muslins galore, not being precious about clothes or soft furnishings and going out occasionally so I didn't focus on it all helped.

I also gave up dairy, soya, caffeine etc to see if it would help but to no avail. I'm actually much happier now I can enjoy a proper brew with milk and a bit of cheese

Hang in there, sounds horrendous for you but it will not be like this forever. Sounds patronising but focus on the fun bits so you don't look back and feel you missed out on the good bits because of the reflux.

My DS is the same on nutramigen ranitidine omprezole and gaviscon and not making any difference ! He won't lay flat at all! He barely naps properly got a constant snotty nose snores and is constantly bringing up milk but it's silent reflux so it sits at top of his throat ! He coughs chokes and has screaming fits! It's horrendous and no bloody doctor takes it seriously ! my dd had it but not like this and she outgrew it!

I've taken to letting him sleep on his tummy as that is when he is most comfortable. It's such hard work though the reflux I hate it. The doc's just feed him with medication and it's like surely there must be something else they can do

When you say aptamil do you mean aptamil anti reflux milk? This literally changed our lives. Can't recommend it enough. Also, Friend of mine's baby tried every prescribed milk and medication and the aptamil anti reflux milk have her her baby back. Good luck, it's awful.

NotAClueReally3 he was on the anti reflux bit it didn't seem to work. He's on pepti 1 now gaviscon and omeprazole. I have thought about going back on the anti reflux. Thanks NotAClueReally3

You could definitely consider cutting out dairy if be or switching to neocate formula

Some of the hydrolysed milk formulas still contain dairy protein so little ones can still react

Aptamil pepti is a hydrolysed milk so contains milk proteins but broken down so the body doesn't recognise them. If your baby is intolerant or allergic to cow's milk protein they can still react to the hydrolysed proteins. My Dd's reflux was actually worse on that as it is so thin (although I thickened with Carobel). If it is not helping your LO's reflux I would definitely ask to try nutramigen or neocate. They contain no milk proteins at all so they are a step further on than aptamil pepti.

Nutramigen does contain milk proteins you need nutramigen purimo or neocate. We are just moving to neocate see if it helps!!!
