Hi everyone,

My 7 week old is noisey when he sleeps in the night - making grunting noises etc.

He's asleep but I'm awake!

He's growing well and seems fine - is this normal? and if so when will it STOP!!!

Thanks everyone

I'm sure it is normal. Not experienced it personally but I'm sure lots of other mumsnetter will come here soon and say they have.

Er, yeah, this is normal, and the bad news is, it won't necessarily stop.

My dd2 (now 5 months) was a brilliant sleeper from the start, but very noisy (lots of grunting, fidgeting, snorting and snuffling) and in desparation we moved her out at 4 weeks and into ds (4.5) bedroom (right next door). Result: fantastic night's sleep all round.

They've both just had colds, and we could hear them snoring in tandem from downstairs, but they don't seem to wake each other up.

Dd did this from about 3-10 weeks, usually in the early hours, from 4am to whenever she got up for the day. She grunted and shuffled and sounded very strange. In the end I put in some earplugs as we were all in the same room and I'd hear her cry and dp could sleep through the grunting but was there in case there was a new weird sound to worry about. It really helped me to sleep as I couldn't manage to with all the piggy noises she made! It did stop in her case, as suddenly as it started. I think it was her trying to squeeze out trapped wind.
