How to cut down night feeds

I put a thread up earlier this week and received good advice about cutting down night feeds in order to get my 8 1/2 mth old to sleep through. She still takes 4 oz - 5 0z at night in order to get back to sleep at 2 or 3 or 4 am. She has never been a great gulper of milk and I gave up breast feeding at 6 months as she became less and less interested and I also didn't have a clue how much she was taking. Thought formula would be the ticket! She doesn't take much milk through out the day and having read threads on weaning maybe she needs much more milk than I give her - 6oz in am and about the same at bedtime. She doesn't even manage this amount. I give her a yoghurt or cheese sauces or custard. But maybe this isn't enough milk. For the people out there who have cut down the night time feed was it the dream feed or did you let them wake and give your baby less and less. At night time it is the only time my wee DD takes her milk without pushing the bottle away. Basically I am a bit confused as to how to cut down as maybe she is genuinely hungry. Not sure if going back to dream feed would make it easier to cut back or just to give her less when she wakens in the early hours. Appreciate any tips.
