Hi, just wondering about travel cots, do u buy a matress seperately for them? Or do u not use a matress?? confused!

Most come with a thin mattress.

But the thin mattress is usually rough and rubbish. I had to buy a mattress separately.

Taking your own mattress kind of negates the point of it being a travel cot, though!

Yes, the included mattress isn't usually fantastic, but most of the time they are used for lightweight infants who will still be comfortable. There's a reason they are meant for temporary and not everyday use.

We used the supplied mattress and brought a padded mattress protector from John Lewis (which is great).

I would be very wary about buying a separate mattress after reading a recent article about a 10 month old baby in NZ who died when she got trapped between the brought mattress (which didn't come with the travel cot) and side of the travel cot.
