Overheating?!? Barely warm enough for teeth not to chatter

I've just got a grobag and been reading the SIDS foundations recommendation for how warmly to wrap your baby at night. The thermometer says 21 - and they reckon a vest and a high summer sleeping bag - a sheet basically. I'd be cold like that - and the babe (8wks old) feels like an icicle if I leave him for a few hours like that (a wakey grumpy icicle).

Obviously I want him to be safe... but does anyone actually manage to stick to these guidelines strictly?

DD has been in a grobag since day one. Always a vest, babygro and then the grobag. During warmer weather, a long sleeve vest and the gro bag.

i know what you mean kif - dd's room is usually 18 and feels cool to me; she she wears a vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog grobag BUT... its only ever her hands that are freezing and she never seems to wake from the cold. better be safe than sorry....?

WriggleJiggle · 10/01/2007 21:14

Dd wears 2x babygros and her grobag. She would freeze with less on.

If he's grumbly, put one more3 layer on and see if that one layer stops him grumbling. If so, he's warm enough.

Not everyone has the same internal thermostat setting, so I wouldn't expect a baby to either.

colditz · 10/01/2007 21:16

that 3 was a typo, sorry

ive been putting a grobag, sleepsuit and a sheet and maybe a blanket if the temp dipped below 18c. I feel DS tummy when he wakes for a feed and he feels just right with this amount of bedding on.
