Crying 30 mins after bedtime

DD is 6 months old. She's a good sleeper and will generally go down at 7 and wake around 6:30am/7am, which is great.

We've recently made the transition from moses basket to cot in her own room, although prior to this she was going down at the same time into her moses basket no problems, so no change in routine.

Now, it seems that about 25/30 minutes after she goes to sleep she wakes crying. Not grizzling for her dummy but full on out of nowhere crying. The first time it happened I thought she had been bitten by something her cry was so sudden, but it's continued as is generally at the same time. Sometimes she will resettle with a bit of reassurance and her dummy, but sometimes it takes more and the last couple of nights we have had to use a white noise app to settle her again.

Has anyone had any experience of this and what it could be?

Id probably hang around upstairs for half an hour after baby goes to sleep - then nip in super fast at the first murmur.

My dd sometimes does this! It's so odd and horrible, but I noticed after a few times that she wasn't actually awake while she was crying and if I picked her up it often made it worse so I now start by kissing her face and shhhing in her ear and normally that calms her back to sleep or if not a quick cuddle normally does it.

I'm not sure if it's overtiredness or something but it seems like she's having a horrible dream!

Sounds like an overtired thing, mine used to wake 40 minutes on the dot after bedtime until about 8mo. What are her naps like?

Mine have all done this when overtired. The 6mo currently does it most.

My dd used to do this at around six months. It lasted a few months I'm afraid. I asked friends about it at the time and found lots of people had experienced the same with their babies.

I've heard its overtired, DD did it and certainly she was overtired by the time we got her to bed. She kept doing it for a few months although it gradually got less frequent. We found the most success if OH went in and resettled her - not me as I guess DD thought she was getting a feed. He didn't pick her up, but put a hand on her and 'shushed' her back to sleep.

Is she starting teething? Pain generally bothers them more at night when there is nothing to distract them from it.

Came on to say overtired or teething but been beaten to it!

I was also in the 'wake up after 30 mins at bedtime' gang until a few days ago where he seems to be waking up an hour or two after instead. This has coincided with a longer nap cycle. And I almost definitely think it is a case of going to bed overtired. You could try an earlier bedtime or rearrange naps and awake time so it isn't too long before bedtime etc...play around, see what happens. It is so frustrating though when all that effort has gone into bedtime x good luck

Yup you aren't alone, I have a 6 month old who does this too, like clockwork at the moment! Just riding with it, he usually settles with a bit of shushing and patting, for a few hours at least! Hope it passes soon for you!

My boy did this for a month or so, around 6 months. He hasn't done it for a few weeks now (9.5 months). I used to send my OH up to resettle him and then he's sleep all night.
