three year old in mid-sleeper cabin bed?

We are moving house and three weeks later due DS2.
DS1 is 3 and a half, and as part of the 'lets settle him into new house and big brother role' we told him that baby brother is having his bed (cot bed) and he can have a new bed. He has been pretty adamant he wants "a bed with steps like my friend K" (my 8 year old godson).
One the websites for mid sleepers though they say recommended from 6 years.... anyone put a three and a half year old in a midsleeper? Am i bonkers to do it?
He's got his heart set on it!

DS has midi sleeper think he went in his at about 2.5, his has more of a sloping wooden ladder and a tent thingy that goes round the bottom to hide all the shit. He practised getting up and down and was really excited going to bed. I reminded him 100 times to remember if he woke in the night to go for a wee he had ladders to come down.

My dd has gone into one this year aged 5. She has fallen out in the night twice, once in the gap for the ladder, once over the raised edge. Depends if you are ok with that risk.

I have DS a midsleeper aged 5 and could not stop him jumping off it at first. I wouldn't have tried it any earlier. How biddable is your DS? Will he cooperate?

Ds went into his at around 3 due to new baby. I was worried he would fall out as he is a wriggler but he had this in his toddler bed and so I put it into the new mid sleeper (across the gap where the ladder is) and he's never once fallen or had trouble getting in or out. We did it at approx. 5 with one of these tunnels and a guard to stop them falling out of the ladder/slide hole at the head end. The tunnels also stop them jumping, or standing on the bed (which was my main concern). Would be inclined to buy the bed but get a 3.5 yo to sleep on a mattress underneath to be honest. Your ds could use the upper level for looking at books, playing etc. for now.

Mine had one at 4. She did go through a phase of jumping off of it when she was about 6.

the bed guard is a good idea might look into that. I'm confident with him up and down the steps, and he has rarely fallen out of bed, but its always a worry.
I think he will co=operate and be good as it is 100% his idea and request - but with a house move and new sibling who knows!

On holiday last year the kids had a huge double bunk bed. he was supposed to be on the bottom and his 5 year old friend on the top but we found them asleep up there together most nights (at 2 and a half) and that was ceiling height - omg getting him down every night without waking him was nightmare!

I think you should follow the age guide. Safety first. Really.
