I have transitioned my 2year old dd to a toddler bed and in the 3 nights she mustve woke up about 10-15 times each time she was taken back to bed and tucked in. Shes only fallen out twice and the third time she didnt cry she slept the rest of the night on the floor (didnt see her until i went to collect her) She isnt climbing out of bed when i read her a story but i am doing the disappearing chair and its working as ive done it before. Last night she slept from 9.15pm to 7am no wake ups and no falling out of bed. I was expecting it to take a week for this to happen? Maybe she was ready to go into a bed? She wasnt even climbing out the side of the cot.

I would be expecting 12 hours sleep at night from my dc at that age, plus 2h lunchtime nap.

You don't mention daytime nap, but less than 10 hours sleep at night would be a worry for me.

I've moved mine into a bed after their 3rd birthday and had no 'transition period' at all. They just slept normally from night 1

Just moved DS into a cot bed yesterday (took one side off the cot) and while he won't stay in there for day sleeps (cue massive tantrums yesterday and today) he hasn't had any dramas overnight. I was definitely expecting drama. We only did it because he was climbing out.

We aim for 12 hours overnight and 2 -2.5 hours during the day and usually get 11 + 2 as he is woken up by DH's shower in the mornings. Otherwise he's (now) a great sleeper.

For day sleeps I'm going to put him in a travel cot as he can't climb out of that yet.

DS is five, and in all his life has NEVER slept for more than a total of 11 hours out of 24. Some babies and children just need less sleep: www.parentingscience.com/baby-sleep-requirements.html

The only time mine have slept 12hrs + at night is when they have dropped all naps. My 2yo sleeps 11.5hrs at night and 1.5hr nap (but I do wake him in the morning and after nap). I'm under pressure to put him in a bed but he hasn't tried climbing out of cot yet and just started sleeping through regularly after nearly 2yrs of awful sleep so he is staying in there for now!

She does have a 2 hour nap in the afternoon but she might go without one maybe once a month? Even then she isnt falling asleep at dinner. She never falls asleep in the car and is hardly grumpy there is a few tantrums because her cousins taken a toy off her but thats normal behaviour for a 2 year old shes god at sleeping in her bed at nap time aswell and i hope it continues!

Insanedame my dd only showed signs of climbing out once but i thought i would change it over incase she does it when im not looking.

Forgot to add she could hook her foot onto the top at the side but not physically pull herself over so thats why i changed it

I'm not sure which bit you are excited about - the not falling out? the not getting out ? the not waking for just under 10 hours?

All are pretty normal.
I mean, all 2 yr olds are different and there will be some who have never slept through at that age and others who will never sleep for than length of time and others who have slept 12 hours straight for a long time.

Backforgood The fact that shes taken to the bed so well, shes always been able to sleep through the night. I expected there to be more tantrums but she has been asking to go to bed which is something she had never done before. I found through a quick search that 10-12 hours at night is fine and a 1-3 hours nap in the afternoon is fine too got a bit worried after a pp said that she should be sleeping more but she is happy in herself and wakes up when she wants unless shes ill and i feel that shes slept too long without a drink.

Yes - lots of dc are excited about "going into a big girls bed". It's all in the way you present it.
