Just as the title says....DS is 15mo and I'm trying to envisage when we might need to buy a toddler bed.

Hello! We moved our daughter when she started climbing out of her cot aged 18months. I think you'll just know when they're ready Smile

We moved our daughter into a bed at 15 months because she kept bashing into cot sides and waking herself up!

Only1scoop · 17/04/2016 22:43

We made cot into little bed when dd was 2.

We used dream tubes to stop her falling out.

19mo, haven't yet, am also wondering the same. Am planning to leave it as late as poss... Or is there any reason why that's a bad idea?

Ffion3107 · 17/04/2016 22:56

Newmumwithquestions if there's no reason to move I don't see the harm in keeping them in the cot x

WhispersOfWickedness · 17/04/2016 22:57

18 months for us, with DC1, we had needed the cot for DC2 and he climbed out of the cot on the same week we moved him anyway, so that was good timingGrinWe moved dc2 at 18 months too, because it had worked so well for DC1 at that age Smile
Moved both into normal singles though, rather than toddler beds, to save money. We had to get a bed guard for DC1 as he would fall out of bed, no need for DC2 though.

Ds is 2.3 years and still in his cotbed. I'm also leaving it as late as possible!

Writerwannabe83 · 18/04/2016 23:34

My DS has just turned two and is still in his cot. As long as they aren't trying to climb out of it then it's the safest place for them to be at night.

I bought a toddler bed about two months ago because it was on sale at the time but I'm in no rush to get DS into it.

InsaneDame · 19/04/2016 07:32

Mine just turned 2yo as well and still in cot. He looks pretty big in it now but he has just started occasionally sttn or just waking once after two years of crap sleep so I'm not in a rush to change anything right now!

hownottofuckup · 19/04/2016 07:35

DD3 is 3.2, it still hasn't occurred to her that she could climb out of her cot so I'm leaving if as long as possible. It helps she's very petite so still has lots of room in her cot.

Icecappedpinetrees · 19/04/2016 07:39

When they start climbing out?

DS is 2y3m and we took the bars from his cot this week. There was no need to do it as he was happy and safe before and once the bars are off, there's no going back! Smile

Dd1 was 25months. My plan was to wait until she started climbing out of the cot, but she never bothered, even though she easily could have done it.
Then I became pregnant with DD2 who at this point was due 6months later and would need cot.
So we moved her then as I wanted it established in good time before new baby, she would also be switching to a new bedroom, so she didn't associate new baby with being booted out of her cot/room.

However, if you're not pg and going to need use of cot, as pp have said, when they start to climb out.

In our case, when he climbed out and landed on his head!
About 18m, I think. Maybe younger.
We got a v low toddler bed and put his old cot mattress alongside for him to land on when he fell out. (He did, a lot)

Salene · 19/04/2016 08:29

We have just moved our 19 month old from our bed to his own toddler bed with zero fuss. He is sleeping quite happily in his new bed on his own.
