My DS is waking at 5am and if I give him his morning bottle and change his nappy he will go back to sleep until 8.30ish (still sleeping now!) My HV said that this is too early and habit forming and 6pm is acceptable. He goes to bed at 7pm. How do I get him to tell the difference between 5 and 6am? Can other Mum's let me know their routines. Should I not feed him his morning bottle until it is time to get up? He occasionally sleeps till 6am anyway but usually 5am. There are chinks of light through his blackout blinds. Will eliminating this help or is it just hunger waking him? Do I just offer him water and then get no sleep till 6am???? Please help. thanks

I had a similar problem with my DD (when about 7 mths). She would only sleep through until 4-5am; she went down about 7pm. I'm from Oz and we have a bible called Babylove (by Robin Barker) - apparently this is quite common for some bubs and there isn't much you can do. They have had a good 9-10 hours. She suggests a quick feed as sometimes they'll go back and sleep a bit more (what I did and what you are doing it sounds), otherwise you can try going in 5 mins later each week and see if that encourages the little darling to sleep longer. I'm just glad my bub would go back to sleep, a friend's kid is then up for the day!! I think Ferber in his book says you should use CC but that is the last thing I want to do at 4am and my bub just cried and cried..... Good luck

ours does the same (although her waking is around 6 and i would prefer 7... i feed her and then most days she'll nod off again for anything up to 2 hours... but this is with me bf'ing and letting her into my bed for this bit.... but i dont mind this and she seems to know its the only time of day when thats allowed these days. i dont havethe energy for cc at that time of day, and i am fairly certain that she is actually hungry by then anyway.

It seems sensible to me too. It does seem along time to go without food and not sure I want to upset the applecart by using CC for the sake of a bottle. I am also grateful that he is not up for the day at that time as you sau Ousie! I really blacked the room out last night and he still woke at 5.15am. I didn't give him a bottle till 6am but it just meant less sleep for both of us! I do tuck down with him too Spod (have a bed in the nursery as dog sleeps on the bottom of ours!) Doesn't seem to affect him sleeping in his cot the rest of the night, so I can live with it. Maybe I'll just ignore the HV!
