Controlled crying - love it or hate it - worked for me really quickly every time.

Nothing you haven't heard before - just be boring, and repeatedly put them back to bed.

If it helps, we did couple of mins cry, lay back down, calm down, leave - repeated for as long as it took - the time to settle got less and less, and now ds goes to sleep alone (usually) and slept through within 2 weeks. Get a good film on (to distract you from the guilt-inducing whimpers!) and be mean! It'll totally be worth it! GOOD LUCK!

By 1 year, there's nothing wrong, your tot would just prefer you to sing/stroke/feed/rock/cuddle them to sleep! (obviously if you think there is something wrong, then pop to the HVs!)

PS Check with your HV to see if there;s a sleep clinic - we went on 3 sessions and it really helped me get things sorted! good luck!
