Gro-clocks - what am I missing?

We have just put our nearly 2year old into a toddler bed. All has gone really well and we have bought a gro clock to try and keep him in bed until 0600. Everyone I know raves about them as the beesknees. He gets it - to an extent - in bed until the sun comes up but how do I stop him just pressing buttons until the sun comes up?? You have to reset it every night so can't just set it and tape over the buttons. He has to be able to see it easily so hiding it up high wouldn't work... Am I missing something? Like a parental lock?

There is a lock - press and hold the up arrow (I think) until a cross appears middle right on the clock.

There's a lock. I can't remember how you do it but I'm sure you can find the instructions online if you've not still got them

o switch on key lock -
When the clock is activated in night-time sleep or day-time nap mode, Press and hold the scroll down button
until a cross appears in the big star’s cheek. The buttons will now be locked

Hold the down arrow for 3 seconds and hope he doesn't work out how to take the wire out and put it back in to get the sun up

The controls are SO bloody complicated.

I think it does have a way to lock the buttons (although they can figure it out too). We've never had to though. It didn't really start working until dd was a bit older. We use a bit of bribery (although obviously it's something we don't actually mind her having every day). I'd just tell her it doesn't count if she cheats. Now she is really strict about it - she cried when we tried to get her up early because we were going on holiday because "it wasn't morning yet". We've also forgotten to set it a few times and she's just stayed in her room until we've gone to get her .

Key lock deactivates once wake up time has been reached
To switch on key lock -
When the clock is activated in night-time sleep or day-time nap mode, Press and hold the scroll down button

To turn off key lock -
Press and hold the scroll down button until you hear a beep.

Wasn't over impressed with ours. Dd never loved it. Is 6 now and still sneaks into our bed at all hours. after a year or so our gro-clock became slow too... Quite how an electrical clock does that I'm not sure!

Neither my 6 year old nor nearly 4 year old has ever messed with it, unplugged it, whatever. It works a treat with the 6 year old, but the 4 year old, not so much or in fact at all!

IME the clock itself isn't what helps. It's just a tool that helps to signal when it's acceptable to get up and when it isn't to someone who can't tell the time.

So you have to enforce the wake up time, and tell your toddler off if s/he messes with the clock to make the sun come up early (while resetting it and making them stay in bed til it really does come up).

Did you read the story book that came with it? We did that as a bedtime story. Then a reward for waiting for the sun.

Brilliant thanks ladies. Will try the lock. I don't think he is aware enough to be trying to manipulate it, I just think he likes pressing buttons!!!
