The Golden Question...

When will my baby sleep through the night?? He is nearly 13 weeks old. From around 8 weeks he has gone from his 630 feed through to around 2 to 3am for his next feed. This has been pretty steady for the past few weeks a few times he went to 430.

The last few nights I decided to try and give him his dummy. I stressed that I was starving him but he went to 6/630 but not without waking loads for his dummy. I felt I was putting myself under too much pressure and him too. So last night I decided if he woke I would feed him. I gave him 5 feeds during the day so he was quite full when he went to bed. He spent until 4 didn't wake for dummy at all so I fed him. Sleep was a bit disturbed from then but he slept until 7.

Basically I don't know if he is waking as habit or if he really needs it. I mean how do I know if it is just comfort for dummy or hunger? I guess it's trial and error? I shouldn't complain as going from 7 until 4 is pretty good and I guess I am expecting too much as some of my friends had babies that slept through the night at 12 weeks.

He is a very good contented baby. Any advice or experience welcome!! Xx

my DS was nowhere near sleeping though at 13 weeks. Apart from the odd fluke night he didn't consistently sleep though until he was about 9 months. I think that what your DS is doing is pretty normal, even quite good compared to a lot of babies.

I think what you are doing is fine.

Thanks for replying. I honestly think that I just need to seriously chill out and stop stressing about it. He will seep through when he is ready I guess!! X

6.30 till 2 or 3 is really good for his age! Most babies need to feed at least once in the night until around 6 - 9 months. I'd count myself lucky if I were you.Smile

7 until 4 is sleeping through the night really!. I fully expected a night waking until 6 months old. Ds didn't drop his last night feed until 8 months. Totally normal sleep pattern for that age
