Transitioning from Sleepyhead

DD (just shy of 7mo) has outgrown her Sleepyhead and bedside crib. We've bought a cot, which we've taken the side off and adjusted so it's at our mattress level. Past couple of nights the cot wasn't ready so we coslept, but our bed isn't big enough really. (DD and DH have enough space; I'm squashed in the middle!)

Problem is, because DD has only ever slept in the sleepyhead, whenever she rolls she wakes herself up. She's never had this much space before!

Any tips on managing the transition? Please don't tell me we need to buy the Sleepyhead grand because I really don't think we can afford it! Tempted to make my own version with towels though...

I will be in the same situation soon... I think I read somewhere you can take the long rounded pillow out and put it under the cot sheet to achieve the same effect as the grand. I think it would be much safer then towels rolled up but I am not sure. I tried it once with DD and she was fine. She's still small enough to fit do I've not been focusing on it yet.

I have to do this soon so following. Can I ask a stupid question? How do you know when they've outgrown SH? My daughter looks very 'comfy' in it and I fear she may be it growing it but she's only 5 months and on a lower centile so I don't see how that can be...

I think it's when their shoulders start to be scrunched. DD is 25th percentile for weight and height. She's almost 7.5m and still fits just fine.

DS is 5 months but a strapping fellow. We're about to be in the same situation. The grand version is a hell of a price for a fabric sausage, isn't it? I was going to see if I could get a handy friend with a sewing machine to knock up something similar. I've heard of someone putting a pool noodle under a cot fitted sheet but it seems to me that that would still leave quite a lot of rolling space.

Ooh lilac that's a great idea! We had a fucking awful night last night just trying to put her in the cot so need to do something.

I might try putting her in the Sleepyhead in the cot as she might still fit - it's just we had it in her crib and she was definitely getting too long for the crib.

She's 7 months next week but is 75th centile and about 18lb I think?

If it's only the length just unsnap the bottom! DD is in her cot with the sleepyhead and has been for months. No issue at all!
