ds who is 17wks pld was such a happy and contented baby. his eyes would light up everytime he saw me and he would give me a lovely smile even if he was extremely tired and sleepy. But since the last 2 days we have been trying controlled crying to help him nod off by himself.he is not happy at all and that look of adoration for me has disappeared!!do you thin he is cheesed off with me for letting him cry?

why cc so young?

i wouldn't do it with a child that young tbh, they don't understand object permeance yet so just think they've been abandoned.

CC is for children 6 months and older. I would leave it till then.

He's too little for controlled crying. He's also too little to be "cheesed off" with you - but he's unhappy because he doesn't understand yet that you and he are different people, so can't understand being left alone.

At 17 weeks, if he cries he needs something - even if it is just to be cuddled.

Agreed - much to young for cc.

Tbh, I can't even leave my 21mth old to cry it out. They are only little for a very short time, why not give the comfort they need?

since he had problems falling asleep by himself, me and dh used to spend ages trying to rock him to sleep. have got to go back to work next month leaving him in the nursery.discussed iwth hv who suggested this.had tried pu/pd before which didnt work.but seeing all your messages, there seems to be an unanimous suggestion that he is too young for it. anything else that i could try?

even Ferber, king of cc, has now said that cc should not be used on children younger than 1 year in his latest book.

Thanks for all the replies.i am no longer doing cc.i just sit in a chair beside his cot and pat on his chest and say shhh if he starts to cry. that is working, atleast last night it did.
