My son is 3 months old. Hes always slept well & only woken for 1 or 2 feeds and a nappy change every night. Hes in a swinging crib and we place him in a gro bag as he kicks off sheets. After a few hours sleep he spits out his dummy then makes whinging noises he carries on spitting the dummy out when you put it back in, if you dont put it back in the whinges turn to crys. We have neighbours with small children and hve thin walls so dont like to leave him crying. He just wont settle all night after waking for the first feed. Im at my witts end as i dont know what it is. Anyone else had this problem. I have tried absolutely everything & is getting to the point where Im living off 3 hours of broken sleep.

If 'dummy won't do' then it is probably hunger and he needs another feed.

I have always had a 5 minute rule and a 30 minute rule.

--> If reinserting dummy doesn't send baby back to sleep within 5 minutes then I would feed.

--> If baby wakes for another dummy-reinsertion within 30 minutes of the last re-insertion then I would feed.

To tackle nighttime hunger in the longer term, try feeding much more frequently though the daytime. My DD would have 7 or 8 full feeds per day through the daytime - at 2 hourly intervals. This loads calories in the daytime, meaning fewer night feeds are needed.
