sleep cycles -- 30 min. into sleeping

I have a feeling someone here will know the answer to this:

My dd (1 y.o.) consistently seems to cry out 30 minutes to 45 minutes after falling asleep. She will sometimes cry for a few seconds, or will cry for up to 5 minutes before settling back to sleep. Does anyone know about sleep cycles to know why she does this? Is she moving from one stage of sleep to another, and might there be a way we could try and avoid her crying? It's more a curious thing than anything serious....

TIA!

Yes, 45 minutes is the end of the first sleep cycle and the beginning of the next. I think it changes sometime in the second year to being 57 min sleep cycles. I think adult ones are 90 mins. But someone might be able to clarify this more scientifically than me! My dd always shuffles and moves around after 45 mins, always has. She rarely cries but if there's a noise or disturbance at that point in her sleep she'll often wake briefly and let out a grumble or yelp.

I meant 75 rather than 57. Sorry.

My 10 month old dd does exactly the same thing. Only problem is sometimes she seems to wake up completely rather than just drift into a deeper sleep, but this only happens really the first time i.e. at 8pm ish but not when she subsequently goes back to sleep. Of course, when she has a cold....... All norms out of the window.
