co sleeping and duvets

I have a side car arrangement for my nearly-one year old DS, and until recently have been very paranoid about duvets etc, but he likes to cuddle up to us and now that he's almost one, I was wondering when it's safe to buy him his own duvet for his cot and let him under ours when we come to bed? Googling doesnt seem to come with much wrt safety for toddlers and if there is a suffocation or over heating risk once they're a little bit bigger. TIA

My DS (9m) co sleeps with us and likes to snuggle as well but I have to say I always make sure the Duvet's not on my top half (where he is) when he's that close to me as they do get super hot.... Kids Duvet's are much lower tog (I think 2yr old DDs is 4 tog?) anyway so not really comparable, plus if he's got a sleeping bag or something else on him as well when he's not cuddling up to you... Might be a bit much! But FYI, DD hour her duvet when she went into a toddler bed at 20m.

My son has been under our duvet since about 3 months old, although I do keep the duvet quite far down so it won't cover him.
It's so tough finding accurate information on the specifics of safe co-sleeping. If you're nervous, I'd keep him in a sleeping bag and let him snuggle up next to you...
