Is it worth renting a Bednest? Special Offer on, ends tomorrow

Just looking up bedside crib options - am 33 weeks today so hopefully not an imminent thing but I like the idea of having the baby next to my bed but not in it (would be far too scared of one of us squashing him). Seems a better option than a moses basket as you can have the side down and see them and don't have to move as much for night feeds.

Just seen there's an offer on to rent a bednest for 7 months for £70 - the package includes mattress, side panels, sheets etc and rental starts from when they deliver it. The usual price is £120 for the same period. The offer ends tomorrow so I'd have to make a quick choice.

No experience but wish they had been around when my DC were babies. Price looks great as I was just looking at similar to buy on Amazon for my brother's first child and they were £130 for cot plus £70 for mattress. I'm going to tell him about the rental package now, thanks op

No problem.. am now being swayed by the Snuzpod, although that's a lot more money. We've not splashed out on much yet, will be looking to get pram etc second hand so maybe this will be the investment piece as there don't seem to be many second hand snuzpods knocking around. Perhaps people don't want to sell them...

Aargh the decisions! And the baby's not even here yet...

I used a bednest for both my kids... they are great as you can just reach over and drag them into bed with you too feed and then sneak them back again.
My babies were big so only lasted 3-4 months...

Almost all full sixed cots come flat packed. It is super simple to just remove one side of a full sized cot and butt it up to your bed.

More space for baby. Establishes cot use from newborn age. Also means you can lean right into the cot to sleep baby in-situ. Even breastfeed without moving baby if needed. Easy to scoot baby back into cot if you bring in with you. Perfect cosleeper extension to your own bed.

It is much more useful and practical to co straight to a full sized 3 sided cot, then bother with cribs. Needless extra expense.

I have 4 children, youngest 12 months. All had co-sleeper full sized cots from birth.

If you would like an extension to my recommendation. I would specifically recommend a drop-side full sized cot for the purpose of a cosleeper cot.

This means that when baby starts rolling and you want to put side back on the cot, you can put side on but keep it lowered. This creates a barrier so baby doesn't roll into your bed, but means the barrier isn't too high so it's easier for you to lean over the cot side to reach baby.

Yes, I loved the bednest, it was brilliant. We used ours until ds was 6 months old, so renting it was perfect. It really helped when I had an unexpected emcs and I was really sad to see it go. Easy to set up too.

We rented one. It was great. DS was in it until about 7 months.

They take up a lot less space than a full size cot. We wouldn't have fitted one in our room next to the bed.

Yep it was fab. We had a similar offer for DS2 and I was sad to see it go. Really adjustable, so easy for night feeds - wish we had one when DS1 was a baby.

We also used 3sides of a full sized cot fixed firmly to the bed mattresses at the same level and gaps at bars filled with rolled up towels it was brilliant worked really well.

Only used it a few times as I had a CS and found it hard to get off tempur mattress so slept in spare room w baby in Cocoonababy either w me or w his dad in our bed. Bednest was used as general dumping ground. Would have been useful probably but baby was moved into own room and got at about 11 weeks.

Totally recommend the Bednest. So easy for night feeds, takes up less space in the room. DS (3 months) has settled in it easily from day one. £70 sounds like a good price and the delivery/collection arrangement is nice and convenient when you've got plenty else to be thinking about!

Thanks for all replies. Haven't gone for bednest offer as wasn't sure. We were given a cot from the MIL which is over 40 years old and I don't think the base is height adjustable. We haven't made it up yet but I suspect it would be so long that if it was butted up to my side of the bed I wouldn't be able to get out! Will maybe have a play with that first.

Get where you're coming from FATE and I'm all for saving money but it might come down to a space option or whether the cot we've been given is adjustable. We have also been offered a Moses basket so could maybe manage with both of those.

There is always a special offer on bednests so you could still get one cheaply if you wanted. I was put off by safety issues.

There aren't safety issues if the bednest is used properly. The issue with safety was due to the baby being put to sleep on her front, the bed being too inclined and the side being left down when she was unsupervised.

We bought this for DS2 - you can recoup some of the money afterwards by selling it unbranded bedside cot.

DS is a big 6 month old (in 9-12 month clothes) and still fits in it. I so wish I'd had it for DS1 too.

The safety issues were highlighted just when i was about to get one and then NCT stopped doing them so I got a Snuzpod instead. I do really like it but if you want to use a breathing monitor (like anxious old me) then you can't properly attach it to bed. However I have it right next to bed and like that you can see through the mesh etc. IMO cots just seem so huge for tiny babies and a crib is a nice step

Sorry the second paragraph of my post seemed to disappear.

I had gone on to say that I realised the safety issues were down to the bednest not being used in linevwith instructions. But at the time i was looking, DS was at the same age as the porn baby involved and i just couldn't get the thought out of my head or rationalise the fact that I would follow instructions etc.
