Wake to sleep

So I had been pondering if this might be something to try with my 5am waking 15 month old then this morning he coughed and roused himself at 4.45 and slept until 5.45! Effectively by waking himself to sleep he's slept nearly an extra hour!

So how do I do it? How do I wake without waking too much? What time should I do it and how long should I persevere?

Thanks in advance!

I don't actually know what the 'official' advise is on the wake to sleep method. But if this was me the first thing I would try would be rousing the child when I go to bed. This might help to re-set the sleep cycles and causes the least disruption to your sleep.

Has anyone done this for morning wake ups?

My baby wakes from 2-5 every night not hungry just fussy and won't go back down so I was thinking of trying wake to sleep. The guideline says an hour before they normally wake but I was coming here to see if anyone had experience of it and how long it took before you can stop setting your alarm!

Just to update you, I set my alarm for 1am (an hour before she usually wakes) and just stroked her face which made her stir slightly and she woke up at 3 instead of 2 so could be ideal for what you are wanting. Sounds like nothing but she went straight back down at 3 rather than fighting it til 5 so I'm hopeful and definitely going to carry it on.

That's great fairy bizarrely, as I couldn't face setting a 4am alarm, ds seems to have started to be able to resettle himself at 5 and sleep until 6 (7 on Sunday! ) which is amazing! Not every morning and yesterday I ended up with him in my bed but he's not wide awake requiring attention at 5am which is progress! Now if someone could stop the clocks going back and us back to square 1 I would much appreciate it!
