My DS is 5 in November, he has such a bad time sleeping, generally goes to bed quite well, has a bath, gets ready, reads a story then I have to hold his hand until he falls asleep, this used to only be 10 mins max but the past month or so he has been taking up to an hour to fall asleep! He used to sleep in his own bed until around 2am before waking up and getting in our bed, (which im not bothered about, I work 40 hours a week, I quite enjoy the cuddle) but lately hes in our bed before we even get to bed! found out last week that I am expecting again (5+2 weeks) and been having all kinds of pains (been checked out, scan tomorrow to double check) so the sitting on the floor holding his hand is killing me for that long! OH does do bedtime routine too but DS insists on it being me who holds his hand!

any tips for getting him to sleep quicker and staying asleep longer?

I would try slowly removing the need for you to hold hands. Start by sitting near the bed but not holding hands and gradually further away until you are out of the room. Alternatively say teddy x is going to cuddle you until you go to sleep and then leave the room and lurk outside. It might be a few difficult nights but worth it Smile
