pocobaby hammock?

Posted also in pregnancy board before realising that the sleep board existed. Went shopping for nursery things the other day, and saw the poco baby hammock (instead of a moses basket etc). Anyone used it? Any good?
I saw that there was a safety scare about a similar one (Amby) a few years ago, but surely it must be safe if still being sold in main shops. It does conform to British safety codes. Just that others I have asked seem to look a bit Hmm when I described it, so am keen for other reviews!

We had the Amby hammock for our dd and it was one of the best baby buys we made - in fact we just reluctantly packed it away this week (she is now a very large 10.5 month old who barely fits in it any more).

I researched the issue about the scare and the recall before I bought it because I had read that it happened and was a bit nervous. Basically it was not the fault of the hammock (which does pass all the safety standards). What happened was that 2 families in the US bought a second hand hammock online with no instructions and assembled it incorrectly (one set hung it from a ceiling hook they put up themselves rather than using the proper hammock frame, and the other set put it together so badly that the side netting came loose and the baby got tangled up in it). So the hammocks caused a problem because they had been put together badly - the same thing could happen if you assembled a cot without following the instructions properly and it collapsed or something. There is information about it here: amby.co.uk/the-2009-product-recall.

I don't know about the pocobaby specifically (the images look pretty similar to the Amby), but using a hammock worked brilliantly for us. My dd started out in a moses basket but she got reflux at 5 weeks old and we couldn't put her down because the sick would run up into her throat and make her splutter and then start crying (propping up the basket didn't help), and so I then read that a hammock can alleviate it because the baby's head is slightly elevated. The reflux stopped instantly, but we also found that she just loved being in the hammock, because it's so snug and cozy, and her sleep instantly improved from waking every 1.5 hours to going to a 4 hour stretch, and when she started to wake I could just reach out and push the hammock, and it would often send her back to sleep for a bit. It's also quite easy to travel with.

I also found people were a bit surprised, because they haven't come across hammocks before, but others were rather envious (the most common comment was actually 'do they do them in adult size too?').

Thanks, that's very helpful! Stupid question.....I take it that you don't do the feet to foot thing, otherwise it won't balance? I'm planning to use grobags anyway so I guess the baby wouldn't wriggle under anything anyway.

You can put the baby anywhere in the hammock really without it seeming to affect the balance so I aimed roughly for feet to foot. Ours came with a baby positioned that was meant to help keep very little babies snug and in place - we never used it because by 5 weeks it was a faff to put her in it but it might be helpful with a newborn if you are using it from birth.

Grobags definitely a good idea - the hammock is quite narrow so sheets and blankets would be a nuisance.

Positioner not positioned!

Not the poco baby but we use the amby here and absolutely love it! DS has slept really well in it from early on as he was so little I think he felt really snug! I actually ended up with 2 (been eying them up and got one not realising PIL had treated me for baby shower!) and have one to go on eBay if you wanted to PM me? X
