10 year old still likes me to lie with him every night till he goes to sleep - who can beat that age, or am I the only Mum with the oldest child that doe this?!

Yes still lie next to DS he nods off and I go downstairs, he's an only and hasnt never, ever liked being upstairs on his own.

I really thought he'd of grown out of it by now, more habit I suppose

That's what I hoped but yes, 13!!! I miss our cuddles a little bit. Don't worry, he will grow out if it soon enough.

Could you have a pet in his room?

ukgirlatheart · 23/09/2015 10:34

How about playing an audio book as he falls asleep?

ukgirlatheart · 05/10/2015 13:17

Think hes too old for an audio book, I need to bite the bullet in the Oct holidays I think he has to sleep, on his own now

You can get audio books for older children. Adults listen to audio books too. Might help.

Has he ever done school residentials, cub camp etc?

springalong · 05/10/2015 14:29

mine is 10 and we still have audio cds on.

ImperialBlether · 05/10/2015 14:40

Does he like Harry Potter? If he does, he would love the audio book. And there are 7 books; that should take him a while!

vickibee · 05/10/2015 14:43

my son is 8.5 and I have to do same.

LisbethSalandersLaptop · 05/10/2015 14:43

well mine is 16 and I still have to kick him out of the lounge (doubles as my bedroom) at night, if he had his way he would sleep curled at my feet like a giant kitten.

DollyTwat · 05/10/2015 14:44

Mine but I like our cuddles
Amazing what he waits til bedtime to tell me!

overthehill74 · 06/10/2015 21:18

Please don't tell me this!! My ds is 5 and will not sleep in his own bed, or go to sleep on his own. He has never been a great sleeper but we were getting there. He was poorly and spent a night in hospital in August and since then it's like he has gone back two years.

Erimemushinteperem · 06/10/2015 21:23

my 10 year old is the same and 12 year old. I assume puberty will put a stop to it. Well I hope so!

whois · 06/10/2015 21:59

I listen to audiobooks at night. you don't have to buy him a kids book, plenty of teenager or adult books on audio.

Look for the unabridged versions - min better value in terms of cost per time.

whois · 06/10/2015 21:59

Much better

RandomMess · 06/10/2015 22:01

Colleagues daughter still shared her bed at 14 years, we're not close enough now for me to ask if she's moved out yet!

ineedaholidaynow · 06/10/2015 22:05

How long does it take for your children to get to sleep? My DS can take up to 2 hours to go to sleep. Luckily he is quite happy to stay in his bed by himself. If I had to stay with him until he went to sleep I would never have an evening to myself.

campervan67 · 06/10/2015 22:08

Oh no don't tell me this! I still have to lie down with my 5yo and I was really hoping she'd grow out of it soon Confused

tindel · 07/10/2015 08:53

In terms of audiobooks, DH often puts podcasts on if he can't sleep. Usually Radio 4 documentaries - the drier, the better. I was sceptical when he suggested it, but it works for both of us most of the time!
