Now I'm really confused

I posted that my 2.5 month old wasn't napping much in the day and I was worried as NHS guidelines were to nap 6 hours a day. Then I worked really hard to get her to nap and she started sleeping more. Today she has slept two 3 hour stretches.

Then I just read my update from the Babycentre and it said 'she will be awake a lot more in the day - some babies this age can go 10 hours without a nap'

10 hours? WTF? is she sleeping too much then? Am so so confused!

Nooooo!!! DS's night sleep has gone even more to shit since his day time napping improved. Is this why?!?!

MissTwister · 13/09/2015 21:02

Hmmm not sure don't they always say the better the daytime sleep the better the night time....my daughter is still sleeping at night but is occasionally adding in an extra wake up. And still gets up before 6!

All babies are different obviously but I think most 2 month old babies would be seriously overtired if they stayed awake for ten hours!

My baby was only napping for about three hours a day by 3 months but slept well at night. She did four 45 minute naps a day at that stage. If she ever slept for longer than that, it did impact on the night.

One of the best pieces of advice I was given was 'get to know your baby and not the baby in the book'. That helped me a lot. Once I stopped trying to get her to follow guidelines in various books/websites, I felt much happier and much more relaxed.

My almost one year old couldn't stay awake for ten hours!

Mine would find staying awake for 10 hours without a nap difficult at 2.5 years old, nevermind 2.5 months.

I simply do not believe that Babycentre comment you quote is true.

A lot of the time my 9 week old hardly sleeps during day, if she does it seems to be only little cat naps. I'm not too worried as she is sleeping well at night but it amazes me how she can stay awake all that time. All these websites say different things the way i look at it is, every baby is different.

Sparrowlegs248 · 14/09/2015 17:36

Does it mean 10hrs a day altogether?

MissTwister · 14/09/2015 17:42

Not sure....maybe it was a typo!

LO had been marathon sleeping this afternoon right through feeds. Not sure whether to wake her!
