My DS has always been what I consider to be a really good sleeper. He consistently slept through the night from 11 weeks old (fed him at 11pm till 18 weeks). By through the night I mean he would be in bed asleep by 7pm and would wake anywhere between 6am & 7am. This was great - no more milk feeds in the night and I felt as if I could sleep.

When DS was about 14 months he started screaming for 2-3 hours a night for about 8 weeks every night - we tried everything to get him to go back to sleep and nothing worked. Eventually he just stopped of his own accord.

Now he is three he sleeps well but I can honestly say that there is rarely a night when I don't get up to him. 95% of the time this takes less than a minute - I rearrange his blankets or just give him a kiss and he is back off to sleep - he goes down around 7.30 and sleeps until about 7.

Is this normal or does everybody elses children go to sleep and stay asleep all night. I feel too awful to leave him in the middle of the night if he calls me - his dad has tried to go in to settle him but is totally useless at it - they end up having a conversation with the result that DS ends up wide awake.

This isn't really a problem - but I am just curious to know if other people's children/toddlers do the same thing?

dd sometimes wakes up for a cuddle I always put it down to dreams or just to check am still there she is 3 and sleeps later and wakes earlier than your ds also dh is the same and they end up laughing and chatting

I honestly think the only times 3 year old dd1 has woken in the night in the last 2.75 years has been when she had a very bad cough/cold, and then she would just take a drink of water and ask to go back to sleep.

She is not yet in a bed though - we're not in any rush there

dejags, if dd (3.3) slept through I would be worried about her! She wakes at least once every single night, gets out of bed and comes into our room but then goes back to bed and off to sleep quite happily usually within a couple of minutes. I am yearning for the day when she regularly sleeps through ...
