2.5 year old won't stay in bed

So, DS2 (age 2.5) decided to start climbing over the side of his cot. We figured this was a bit dangerous and as DD1 is due in 7 weeks we decided to put DS2 into our spare toddler bed. This was just over a week ago. So, now instead of climbing out the cot, he's getting out of bed! He generally gets out anywhere between 3 and 10 times when we put him down, then maybe 1-53 times in the night and then constantly feom around 5.30am. Previously, he was sleeping till at least 6am before crying for someone to get him out of the cot.

DH and I are putting him straight back in, and trying not to talk to him even if he talks to us, but I'm just wonderig if there's anything else we should be doing. We never had this problem with DS1 so I feel a bit lost. And I'm terrified that he'll still be doing this when DD1 arrives....

Could it be that he needs to drop his nap? He still naps for 1.5-2.5 hours after lunch and gies ti bed around 7.30pm. Help!

Sorry that should read 1-3 times in the night, not 1-53 times! Then I really would be tearing my hair out!

No harm trying without the nap- it made a massive difference to our farcical nighttime shenanigans with DD at that age.
