8 month old wakes up on front crying

My 8 month old DS has slept from 7 till 6 maybe 4 times in his life, but we were getting to the point where he would go down at 7, sleep till 5, then either be up for the day or take a bit of milk and then go back to sleep. In the last few weeks however he has become so fidgety in his sleep - getting himself into really weird positions in the cot. Mostly this doesn't bother him too much except when his face gets pressed up to the cot bars, but he now gets on to his front and then screams until one of us goes in and puts him back on his back.

So really I'm wondering if this is just a phase and if there's anything we can do to help him be more comfortable on his front so that he either falls asleep like that or rolls himself back onto his back? He has been able to sit independently since he was 5 months old and also to roll front to back, but back to front rolling in the day isn't really happening, nor is there any attempt at crawling or cruising.

Which also makes me worry that he is developmentally delayed??

Sorry first time mum here! (Am sure you can tell!!! Blush)

Some babies don't follow the published milestones . Ds2 wasn't rolling over till 9 mo, no crawling not even commando crawling and suddenly last month at 10 mo he started crawling on all four and in a week he pulled up and in two weeks started cruising
If I were you I'd wait till he's one and if he still hasn't crawled I d go to check him out (maybe double jointed but even that is nothing to worry about)

Just give him plenty of opportunities on the floor try to avoid buggies baby seats etc

Oh I also got him to seat on a air cushion a few times which helped him strengthen his muscles x

Thanks Another, could you tell me where you got the air cushion from?

I got it from amazon
It's this one but 60cm one. It was a bit on the big side but the Physio we went to (she suggested it) used the same www.physioroom.com/product/PhysioRoom.com_NEW_Elite_Wobble_Air_Stability_Cushion_35cm_With_Free_Dual_Action_Pump/3307/39251.html?gclid=CM2Cm9qQt8cCFSgGwwodogsBvA&gclsrc=aw.ds
Sorry I don't know how to add a link

You just get him to sit on top and as he's trying to balance he works out his muscles. He rolled over the same day I tried it not sure if coincidence
Do hold him though as he might fall
