Aaargh! Climbing out of cot (23 months)

My 23 month DD has just discovered she can climb out of her cot. Is there any way I can prevent this? Reluctant to just put her into an ordinary bed as she shares a room with her sister, and just gets into her bed and keeps her awake if she gets the chance. Am also concerned she will not take her afternoon nap in a big bed.

Sleeping bag? My dd did this in travel cot around the same age, but couldn't when she was in her sleeping bag as her legs were restrained. She never tried it in her normal cot though.

As for the transition, I put off moving her into a bed as I was worried about negative impact on sleep/naps, but after the second day she was just fine. The first two days she pottered around her room a little bit after I first put her down for a nap, so I went back in and told her it was time to sleep and she laid back down again. Since then, haven't had any issues.

But she doesn't share her room with anyone...

Sleeping bag is a good suggestion, but it's too warm for that these nights. Also, I'm not sure it would be enough to stop her as she is very determined, and now she has figured out she can do this I think it would just add to the challenge!

Other (not very) helpful suggestions from my family were barbed wire around the top of the cot or turning the cot upside down over her!

Ds3 was an absolute sod for this. I ended up putting him in the travel cot, instead of his proper one, because the sides were higher, and he couldn't get enough purchase to climb out of it.

I did think there would be a real market for a cot with a lid, though....

Sorry, I wanted Velcro pj's or a lid for the cot, but we had to take the sides off. It's a little ng way to fall, so if she's going to escape, you could do with moving sooner rather than later.

Went with the 'supernanny' method of repeatedly putting her back into the cot this evening. After about five returns when I went into the room she actually began to walk over to me with her arms up, knowing she was going to be lifted back in again. It took a few more times before she gave up and stayed in her cot, but I'm hoping she has perhaps got the message it's not worth her effort getting out. Will see how we fare tomorrow evening!

PP beat me to it on the sleeping bag suggestion. It certainly bought us extra months and Grobag also do the light tog ones, which are handy if your child is running a light fever as you can put them to bed in it with just a nappy +/- a vest depending on the weather.

My 23 month old climbed out if hers even with the dleeping bag ???? so she's in a bed now. And now we have the problem of her waking at 5 am and coming in our room...... ????
