moses basket to cot. any advice?

i plan on transfering my 12wk old ds from his moses basket into his cot next week. is here anything i can do to make the change nice and easy and at what point do i introduce the sleeping bag? he currently wont sleep unless swaddled (he moves his arms in the night and it wakes him up)

keep him swaddled when moving to cot. Try and keep as much the same as you can to start with (still swaddled, same bedding if you can, same routine etc).

Mine took to it straight away wasn't bothered.

You could put the moses basket in the cot for a few days ??? Might help him get used to the bars..and surroundings/view points etc??????

why are you wanting him in his cot if he seems happy in his moses? Is he too big for it? If so, then I'd maybe put the moses inside the cot for a bit for a while and see how he likes that, then try him in his sleeping bag in the cot. But if he hasn't outgrown the moses yet, i think i'd keep him in it if he likes it.

that was my plan (to keep him swaddled) his moses basket is actually in the cot and has been since he's been in his nursery (since he was 3 weeks old)so i'm hoping he will take to it ok.

moomin - yes he is too big for his moses basket. the only reason he is in his basket still is because he is staying at his grans next saturday night and i dont want to have him going in his travel cot new as well as his cot at home new (iyswim)

ok. Yes, well i'd just try it then. My 2 went from moses to cot with no probs, both with sleeping bags. You can but try... good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine

we put a cot bumper around the bottom of the cot so it was still enclosed and secure like the moses basket, his feet were touching the bumper at the bottom and the top was open so he couldn't overheat. Once he could move around in his sleep we removed it and he was fine.

My 14 wk DD had her first night in her cot last night(outgrown her Moses basket), and she slept better than she had in the past 2 weeks - hope she wasn't just in shock!!!

My dd is the same. She loves her cot. At 4wks she started to scream when put her in moses basket, so tried her in cot and have never looked back. She likes to be all tucked in nice and snug though.

Hi,

My DD used to wake herself up waving her arms...because they kept hitting the side of the moses basket! Put her in a sleeping bag as she went in the cot and she was happy after that.
You are already on the right track with the MB being in the cot - thats normally the key to success.
when you come to test the travel cot, put it up beside his cot for a couple of days before you go away. again, my DD wasn't bothered by it at all. I was though, killed my back!

i put the moses basket in the cot for a couple of weeks so that ds could get used to it gradually.

I always put moses basket in cot to. Made transition much easier.

Just skimmed and thought I would add - perhaps try introducing the cot for his daytime naps before getting him into it in night - that way he can get used to how it feels and cause its day he can see it.

How did it go reidie? Am trying the same thing with my ds (almost 16weeks). He wouldn't settle when I was trying to put him down tonight. Ended up putting him to sleep in his moses basket placed in the cot, and then when he was totally asleep I lifted him out the basket , DP removed basket from cot, and I then put him to sleep in cot. Seems to have worked so far but will see how it goes when he wakes for his feed...
