My 4 week old sleeps all day and all night nearly only waking for feeds. And then he doesn't open his eyes just cries and gets himsef in to a state till i feed him. He wakes at about 4.30pm and stays awake till 6.30ish but thats it for the whole day.

Am i just lucky i have a sleepy baby or could something be wrong?

when you say all day...is he really asleep for 22 hours of the day...or just not very alert./ interested or bothered about anything?

sounds a tad unusual to be so sleepy all day...

does he look at you or whoever might be holding him>

Have you mentioned anything to your HV ?
Has he always slept like this or only just changed recently ?

Littlefish · 17/11/2006 13:33

How often is he feeding? Was he jaundiced at birth, or soon after?

FrayedKnot · 17/11/2006 13:35

DS was like this until about 5-6 weeks iirc.

He only woke up to feed, basically. Mind you, that was quite often

If he is feeding well, weeing, pooing, gaining weight, & HV is happy with him, I would make the most, as it may not last long.

he wakes up to feed and then goes straight back to sleep. when he is awake he is very alert and intrested in everything. hv said just sleepy baby and make most of it as will grow out of it soon. i just windered if it was common.

This was just like my son until he was 10 weeks old, you would never have known I had a baby unless you looked in the moses basket!

He was severely jaundiced till 4 weeks and slept because of that but then just continued in this way until 10 weeks.

Make the most of it, sadly I had a toddler to look after so couldn't sleep when the baby did, I WISH!!!!
