Have you tried a sleep aid like Ewan the sheep or similar, we have recently got one and is helping with the daytime naps especially.
I used to rock to sleep during the day but have started making a little bed on the sofa, giving dummy, snuggle, blanket etc with Ewan the sheep on, just holding his hand for reassurance and he puts himself to sleep, if he starts to stir after 20mins or so put the sheep back on and he settles straight away.

Waking for dummy re-insertion is normal at this age, until baby is of an age where he can reinsert his own dummy.

At bedtime have you tried staying with him (him in his cot though) until he goes to sleep? A reassuring hand on his chest may help, little pats as needed to reassuring him you are there as he drops off. Plus you are there to put his dummy back in as soon as needed while he goes to sleep.

Thank you, the dummy replacement doesn't bother me and after a few nights he is back to going down without being rocked, yippee! But I tried the napping yesterday and he screamed for over an hour then fell asleep for 10 minutes before waking again! Will try Ewan Shock
