Will the nap get longer?

My DS is turning 12 months old next weekend and for a long time now, he has had trouble with one of his naps (usually the morning one) he resists it and it is usually very short (30 mins). Yesterday I finally "gave in" and put him down only once it was really a tough day. He was so tired by 11 am, then his nap was only 1 1/2 hours. So from 12:30, it was a very long and cranky afternoon. I did push him around in the stroller and go for a car ride in the later afternoon to see if he'd sleep -- but he didn't. Part of me thinks that he is clearly ready for one nap, but then I'm worried because 1 1/2 hours doesn't seem very much and he is overall more tired with one nap than two. My questions are: will he seem tired at first before he adjusts to taking only one nap? and will this nap get longer?
