DC1 not sleeping since DC2 was born

Posting on behalf of a friend who is begging for help. I've been trawling this topic for advice but not having much luck.

Friends' DS was born three weeks ago and has been fine, exactly what you'd expect as far as sleep and eating is concerned. No birth complications so friend is relatively fit and well.

However DC1 has basically gone on sleep strike. Also she climbed out of her cot about a week ago so they have transferred her into a cot bed. She's cried and cried, wouldn't stay in bed, isn't napping etc. She's happy at crèche but the issues are all at home. Friends' DH is great and her parents are staying so they can help.

Anyone cracked this problem?

No advice just sympathy. My dd also stopped sleeping when ds arrived. ds is now 10 weeks old and things are better. She still isn't sleeping as well as she used to but things are improving every day. The lack of sleep also meant that she behaved incredibly badly and had lots of tantrums because she was so tired. We had some horrible weeks.

The only thing we have done is return her to her room and not paid her attention but paid her lots of attention when she sleeps well and during the day.

How old is the DC1?

Yeah we had that.
We ended up with dp bedsharing with dd1 and me bedsharing (cosleeper cot) with dd2. Lots of extra attention for dd1 as well. Took a few weeks of hell but it passed
