Daytime sleeping - how much is enough

hi

My 14 week old dd sleeps really well at night - she goes down about 6.30, wakes up once during the night for a feed, and then sleeps till about 7am.

The only trouble is she is so tired by about 5 / 5.30 and I could easily put her to bed then. I'm worried to do this though incase she is then wide awake at about 5am and ready to get up.

She doesnt like to nap very much in the day, if i'm very lucky she will have a half hour nap in the morning and then after her 11am feed she will usually sleep for 2 /3 hours. After this she doesnt sleep at all until bedtime.

I know that each baby is different but what are other babies this age sleeping like and should I be doing anything differently?

My DD (now 9 months) has never slept for anything like as long as that! If she's getting tired before bedtime then why not try to string her out a bit longer before her long nap?

or wake her from that nap after say an hour and a half, and then let her have a third nap a little later, and perhaps stay up until 7pm then. I seem to recall that DD and most of her friends were having 3 naps a day at 14 weeks.

it doesnt matter what time her lunchtime nap is (she falls asleep anytime between 11am and 1pm) but she always starts crying for bed at the same time.

I havent tried waking her from this sleep though, what is the latest time she should be napping in the afternoon?

I refer you to your previous statement 'each baby is different', but I know a lot of people who try not to allow naps after 5pm for bed at 7:30/8 ish.

when my dd was that age she napped 9am, 1pm and a short catnap at 4-5ish for a 7pm bedtime. total sleeps 3 hrs. At 20 weeks she dropped the last nap. hope this helps xx
