My 9 month sleep routine.

Hi. Wondering if anyone can give me some advise. How much sleep does a 9 month old need during the day. I always try to put my dad down for a nap 2/3 hours after waking and another in the afternoon. Am nap lasts just over an hour and pm about half hour. The thing is, it's a battle to get her to sleep. I have to feed then rock her and it takes about half hour. I'm toying with the idea of trying to put her to bed later in the morning (about 11) and cutting out the afternoon one all together. What do you think?

Ps night times are ok. Only wakes once. Any advice would be really welcome. Thank you

My LO is almost 10 months old and naps about 45-60 mins am and 90-120 mins pm. He tends to wake around 6am, morning nap at 9am and afternoon nap is 1:15 ish. Bedtime at 7. He settles himself for naps, usually takes 5-10 mins for him to fall asleep, he has a dummy. If I leave it too late to put him down for a nap he'll struggle to fall asleep and I end up having to hold him until he falls asleep. You need to catch them when they're tired but not too tired if you see what I mean..HTH.

Most sleep recommendations say two naps until 18 months, I think the recommendation is 3 hours during the day and 11 overnight but obviously that is child dependent. Is she overtired or not tired or is it hard to tell the difference with her? I would be reluctant to let a 9month old go to one nap as you run the risk of her being overtired and it affecting her night time sleep. When dd2 cut her second nap at 14 months it was a tad early and we went through a horrid transition stage where she had shorter naps, was grumpy and woke through the night and up at 6am. Now she gets enough day time sleep she now sleeps longer and better overnight.

My 9 mth old either has 2 or 3 naps a day. He's up around 5.30 so first nap is at 8. If he does 1.5 hrs then he won't need another nap until after lunch. If he does 45 mins then he'll do another one at 11am and another one around 4pm. Hoping at some point he'll start sleeping later and then I can get routine of 2 naps sorted...

They say at this age that they get tired 1hr 40 minutes after getting up.

So my 9 month routine was

6.30/7 Wake up
9-10 Nap
11.30 lunch
12- 2 Nap
6.30 bed time

Generally......

Wake up 630
1st sleep 930-10/1030
2nd sleep about 3 hours later 1/130-230
Asleep 645/7

I have a nearly 8 month old (so a little younger).

Usually naps for 90 minutes morning and 120 minutes afternoon:

Generally:

Wake 6.30/7.00
Breakfast 7.30
Nap 9.30-11.00
Lunch 11.30
Nap 1.00-3.00
Dinner 4.30
Bed 7.00/7.30

Occasionally she has a 30 minute powernap after dinner.

The reason for this third nap is in an ideal world PM nap would be 2pm-4pm but that doesn't work with our school run so isn't possible for a cot nap.

I would say 9 months is too young to drop to one nap. Mine have usually done this around the 12 months old mark.
