Hi all.

i'm currently struggling with my 5.5th old dd & i've no idea what is general behaviour for babies of this age so any advice would be great.

Over the last few weeks she has changed from a happy baby to an extremely cranky one and seems tired all the time. She has never slept through the night but goes to bed between 7pm & 8pm depending on long she has taken to settle, she then wakes around 2-3 am and then again around 6 am for a feed, finally getting up around 7.30am.
she has around 3 45min naps a day but seems tired as soon as she wakes up. She is difficult to entertain and gets easily bored. She also isn't a massive eater only ever having 5 oz at the most at one time every 3-4 hrs & that's a good day.
yesterday was awful and it felt like she was crying most of the day and also had 2 25min screaming fits. Last night she slept from 8pm until 5am which is a first, got up at 7.30 am but was still tired and crying. She had a nap at 9th for 45 mins but woke up tired again and whinging, another nap at 11am for 30mins and asleep again at 2pm, she hasn't woken yet. Inbetween we have have mostly crying & generally unsettled.

Sorry if i've rambled on guys. Cheers.

5 months was the age we transitioned from frequent short naps to fewer longer naps.

Previous to 5 months I would follow a 2 hourly routine whereby she was fed every two hours through the daytime and slept for around 45 minutes in every 2 hours.

The transition took a while and didn't happen overnight, but now (7 months old) my DD sleeps 9.30-11.30 and 1.00-3.00, plus the occasional 45 minute powernap around 5.30pm. This is with a 7.30pm bedtime.

Sounds like your baby is hungry, tired or both. If she never wants a large amount of milk per feed, try feeding her more frequently so that she has extra feeds per day, rather than extra ounces per feed.

Thank you for your reply. It's strange because she'll take 5oz during the night no problem, but during the day doesn't seem to want it. I've tried feeding in a quiet place but she just seems to want to get going Smile. Last night we did bath and bed at same time ending up in bed at 7.30pm. She cried and screamed until 9pm! She use to wake up smiling, but now shes either wimpering or crying when she wakes.

Hi,
My little one turned 5 months last week. He used to go down at night for six hours, then 3 hours, then 2 hours. Dreaded 4 months sleep regression hit us and he started waking up much more often, got one tooth and the second one showed up this morning. For the past few weeks, he woke up pretty much every 2 hours. I don't know if this is due to teething or trying to space his daily feeds to enable introduction of bottle of formula. All I know is that I'm tired and a little bit on edge this morning!

Oh god I know that feeling. This week has been so challenging, one eve the oh came home to a lot of tears and they weren't from the baby!
