Is my baby sleeping too much?

I know some of you will want to punch me for this thread. My baby has normally gone to bed around 9pm and slept until 5.30am ish and then had two naps through the day, (am and pm). However, she's just done one night of 9pm to 8am and last night she did 9pm to 9.45am! She woke slightly twice, once at 2am and again at 5am but when I went in she was sort of asleep crying/moaning and when I put her dummy in she went straight back off to sleep. She then had porridge but refused her bottle and any small pieces of toast. She slept in the car for an half hour journey, was awake for around 2 hours, then slept for another 15 min car journey, was awake for around another 2 hours then slept for 30 minutes on the way home. She has refused her lunch today and only had a small amount of liquid. She was very grumpy at tea time, I ended up just giving her mainly pudding and she had some bottle at bedtime. She was soooooo sleepy and went down at 8.30pm. She is 9 1/2 months old. Is this amount of sleep normal? Could her teeth make her sleep more? I'm not sure if it's her teeth making her grumpy?

8.30 is late for bedtime to me, my DS has gone to bed between 6 and 7 since about four months. He then goes through till 7-8.30 and at 9 months had two naps a day of 1-2 hours each.

Wouldn't say it is too much, go with it, they change and develop so much it must be knackering for them! Could be start of a bug or teeth, they always made my boy extra snoozy and a bit grump.

My 2 older children were like that but they went to bed earlier and so got up earlier. Number 3, eh not so much and now dd2 aged 6 wakes far more often in the middle of the night than she ever did as a tot. Enjoy it.

I know 8.30pm but when she was waking at 5am I didn't mind! I'll probably try and move it earlier each night by 15 mins or so. Will be bliss if I get a few hours each evening to myself! (Husband works away). Thanks for you advice. x

if she's going through a growth spurt it's quite common to have a few days or more of full on sleep (much more than usual). Enjoy it while it lasts!!

DS slept 7pm-8am from 6 months plus naps, seems normal

I wouldn't say it is too much sleep just more than you are used to. my little girl (now 2.9) will often have periods with either less or more sleep before going back to normal. Is she trying to get on the move? that could be tiring her out. Enjoy it whilst you can!

I wouldn't say too much either (is it possible to have too much sleep?) It could be something to do with teething though if she's cranky and sleeping more. My ds ironically always slept more when cutting teeth he'd cry to go to bed at 5-6pm and wake at 7-8am the next day with a new tooth

Thanks everyone for your comments. I was starting to think something was wrong - silly I know but I can't help but worry. She went to bed at 8.30pm last night and is still asleep now. Feels weird having some 'me' time! She is on the move crawling and forever trying to stand up with furniture etc so that, along with maybe teeth is probably the answer. Time now to get the ironing done whilst I can!

Get back in bed woman!!!!

My baby slept for ages too - Smile - 7pm bed time (from day !) and one quick feed in the night then awake from 6.30am - two long naps - morning and afternoon and then back to bed at 7pm. It was bliss Grin and many of my friends were jealous. When he started playgroup at 2 he went in the mornings, slept at least 2-3 hours in the afternoon and still went to bed at 7pm. Once or twice he would sleep right through from his afternoon nap to the next morning.

He is still a good sleeper as a teenager. Grin.

Ha ha. I know I should've gone back to bed - I usually wake up then start thinking the monitor isn't working! Thanks everyone. I've started to put her to bed earlier, tonight was half past seven and she's waking earlier too. Bedtime for me now. Fingers crossed she'll be a good sleeper for a long long long time!
