Nightmares about loud noises

DD (nearly 4) has had a recurring nightmare 3 times over the last few months. She will scream with terror – the kind of scream that has you out of bed and running in in seconds – and be curled up and shaking in bed with hands clutched over her ears. She is not very coherent but says something about noise and “why does it keep getting louder?”.

We let her sleep in with us afterwards and she calms down fairly quickly, although she falls asleep again with her hands over her ears still. In the morning she will remember that she’s in our bed because she had a nightmare, but nothing about the nightmare itself (I don’t ask too much as I don’t want to upset her).

My worry is that this seems an odd sort of nightmare, especially the level of terror she seems to experience, or this just normal and I should stop worrying?

I would speak to the doctors just incase it is a hearing issue.
