Just writing this to try and keep my sanity :( my 4 month old DD is the perfect baby during the day naps feeds plays and only complains when hungry or dirty she is EBF (although desperately trying to get her used to the occasional bottle which has been point blank refused but that's another issue!) and feeds every 3-4 hours during the day then bath time hits and boobs are out from 7ish pretty much solidly for anything up to 2hrs and when she does go down she wakes up almost within the hour of having gone down and it's game on for a screaming match. She will eventually settle when I pick her up after allowing her to cry for a few minuits which inevitably leads to more feeds but then as soon as you put her back down when you think she is asleep it starts the whole saga off again :( I try bit to let her cry it out too long as this has a knock on effect on my 2 yr old son waking up upset at all the noise and to top it off hubby isn't very supportive as seems to hold a grudge over the fact she prefers boobs to bottles (think my awful MIL has been in his ear yet again) starting to feel a bit down over the whole thing as feel like I have no me time at all even for a cuppa for 5 mins when the kids are down is anyone else experiencing this??should also point out had her at the docs to get checked over as always fusses with her ears when this is going on but everything was fine which was annoying as at least then I would have a reason for the complete meltdowns!!

Hi my DD similar age (although younger corrected). She also has similar meltdowns, in my case all related to over tiredness which also cause frequent wakes. Babies this age need 5-6 hours if sleep in the day- if she gets this there is no hysteria. Yesterday she didn't and screamed at bedtime, I tried to hold and soothe her and she was still screaming about an hour and a half later. I thought, if she is gonna scream in my arms I'm putting her down. Put her in cot and she went ballistic Hmm but we went in every 5 mins until she fell asleep 20 mins later. She then slept from 9-5.30! Amazing really given she hadn't fed since 7.15. Just putting her back down now.

I would definitely say hysterical fits of crying and ear pulling is over tiredness. Jekyll and Hyde is a great way to describe it x

Fingers crossed this is the answer she has just woken up from a 2 hour nap in her pram out the backdoor now that better weather is here and had about an hour in the car today which is more than she normally gets due to my 2yr old DS rampaging about the house!! She tends to cat nap rather than sleep so will try more structured nap times!! That sounds amazing that your little one slept through!!did you lift her at all when she was crying or just pat her chest/head etc??thanks for getting back to me!xx

No I didn't lift her at all, I just put my hand on her tummy and ssshhhh until she was calm and left again. I did it again last night and she only cried for five min and I didn't have to go in- she slept from 8-4.15. Then I fed her and did same again, this time it took 20 mins and I went in 3 times then she slept til 8.15. Still cat napping in the day though Hmm, but might start putting her in cot more often x
