With my 18 month old. He's always been a crap sleeper. He won't settle at night without holding my hand through the cot bars and wakes usually twice a night and then is up for the day around 5am. Then I take him to my bed and feed him (bf) so I can at least lie down for another hour. Each time he wakes he's hysterical and standing and I have to hold his hands. Several times I've tried to just sit by him and let him cry, he throws up. He's just done it again and I've got him asleep on me. I am SO TIRED. And actually very very annoyed. I want to leave him babbling in his cot and for him to happily fall asleep on his own like DS1 used to do. How can I achieve this without vomit? No cry sleep soln just doesn't seem to work - anything that doesn't involve physical contact leads to vomit. ARGH. Thank you.

It won't last forever! You really need to persevere with any sleep 'training' especially with babies older than 12mo. He needs to learn how to self settle, and bare in mind he will be happier too it's not just for your benefit.
Whichever method you try, eg no cry method, pu/pd, you need to be consistent with it for over a week. Sleep training never works to begin with and the crying will be hard to take. Have a 5minute stop-clock on your phone before giving in.
He will eventually know you are not abandoning him, allowing him to settle on his own.
