co-sleeping comfortably?

I co-sleep with dd when she's having a tricky time of it, growth spurts for example but i find it so uncomfortable!

Because I'm conscious of her being there my body is so rigid, i wake up stiff as a board.

I don't have a side on the bed so i sleep in the middle, dd on my side and dh on the edge of his side :-D

Any tips for comfort combined with safety?

How old is she?

10 weeks, from the OPs other thread.

Kate - have you got the cot in your room? You could remove one side of the cot and butt it up to your side of the bed. This type of 'sidecar' cot allows for a transition to cosleeping, gives a bit more space (since its like an extension to your bed) and also provides a barrier so that baby can't fall out of the bed.

If she's that young, then I second clipping the cot onto the bed as Fate says, to make it into a bedside cot. If she was older, I might say bed guards.
