Science behind 4mo sleep regression?

I've read something about their sleep cycles changing to become more like adults' and so they're more likely to start waking at the end of each one during the light sleep stage. So every 30-45mins ish.

Is this right? Certainly fits with what DS2 (4.5mo) is doing right now....

Do you mean during daytime naps? Yup my dd (4 months) has been doing this for the last month or so. She is now suddenly starting to need longer naps, but still wakes at that point & needs resettling. Frustrating but it does pass!

We've just come out of the four month sleep regression which I felt was horrific! Waking every 30 min to 1 HR. Did get better after two weeks but now DS is poorly. Good luck x

I've read that too flipflops...DD is 5 months and wakes up fully or at least stirs about every 35 mins during naps and during the night.

I'd be interested to know WHY the '4 month sleep regression' ends. Is it because their sleep cycles get longer? Do they just get used to waking up really frequently and learn how to get back to sleep with no intervention from parents? Does the light sleep when they would normally wake/stir become a bit deeper so they stop waking up so frequently?

Interestingly DS2 has just stopped wakin after 30 mins during daytime naps at exactly the same time he started waking that frequently at night?!

Yeah they don't get over it as such seems maybe they just develop into it and once it's normal they can sleep through again and go back to just waking for hunger/discomfort??
