Nighttime constipation and swaddling

Hello lovely ladies, I have a couple of issues in which I'm hoping can be answered!
I don't want to drip feed so I'll try and put it as much as I can see relevant.

Ds is nearly 3 months and bf on demand.
He wasn't the best sleeper, but he was starting to sleep 3 hour blocks with short feeds, i was used to it and it worked ok for us. However the last couple of weeks his sleep has become more into the routine of, him 'messing' around from 7 - 9 (he can't manage any later but he generally sleeps on and off and generally not easy to settle), 12, 3, 5, 6, 7 until he comes into bed with me and we dose together happily for a couple of hours, (while pushing DP out of the bed).

During these messing around times, my poor ds is straining a lot and on off screaming as he's doing it, and I sit there hopeless unable to do anything to help for 2 hours as he's shattered but really needs this poo! However he does go off around 9 - 12 without this poo. Ds will strain each time he wakes, but it doesn't bother him as much as when he first goes off... He will eventually poo at around 7/8 when he's cwtched up with me and after a short strain.. During the day he poos regularly so thats no issue.

Last night was something else, (while I blamed in my fed up state on the taste of icecream MIL let ds have behind my back) he just screamed until Dp came home at 11ish, of course when Dp came home he smiled and squeaked at Dp as he showed he missed him then happily went off to sleep.

I've tried a few things to try and help this constipation, cycling the legs, leg stretches and baby massage. But it's getting slowly worse and I hate seeing my baby in pain... Is it worth giving up the dairy to see if thats an issue or is is a dying wish?

Also ds is swaddled to sleep, he sleeps longer and he enjoys it. Coupled by the still jolty movements or self slapping in the face when he's put down. I would like to move away from swaddling as the swaddleme blankets starting to get a little bit small and he's started to roll over. We don't swaddle him for naps - which probably shows by the lack of sleep he has during the day. Last night I loosened the swaddle after he was in a deep sleep, his arms went straight up to slap himself in the face, however did sleep without the swaddle when he was cuddled up next to me.

Any advice would be grateful! Sorry for length.

Can he be constipated while pooing regularly?

I don't think your issue is constipation, or he would be unable to poo for several days at a time. Could it be over-tired cry?

I'd be happy to carry on using the swaddle for another few months if my baby liked it. My DD (6 months) is still swaddled on the odd occasion she gets over tired and needs calming.
