waking for no reason

Sleep has never been DS's strong point, he's now 13mo and we've worked through lots of phases but now I don't know what to do.
We're at a point where DS wakes a couple of times a night, usually at about 2/3ish and 4/5ish.
He stands up at the edge of his cot crying until I go in and then he stops. He doesn't want anything, except I guess to know I'm around, and I just lay him down again and sit by the cot waiting for him to go back to sleep. He lays quietly with his eyes shut and drifts off happily. Every now and then he goes up onto hands and knees and looks to see if I'm still there then lays back down. If I leave the room, he stands up and starts crying again. Usually the process only takes about 5-10mins but can be up to a an hour. I don't say anything or do anything other than one "shhh, sleepytime" when I lay him down.
I've tried waiting a little while before I go in but it seems pointless as he's stood up I know he's not going to just lay down and go to sleep. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Waking twice in the night seems pretty normal to me, sorry as I know that not what you probably want to hear.

Hopefully someone will be along soon but in the meantime, here are some links:

Do you think there may also be a touch of separation anxiety going on? Just a thought Smile
