Dd was going to bed at 10 with me but was getting tired in the evening and fussy so i moved bedtime to 7:30. She sleeps a good 5 hour stretch from this time and then on and off until about 5am.

However when she came to bed with me she went down beautifully, now with an earlier bedtime she screams blue murder, but is tired. Usually her screaming results in immediate sleep so it's asif she's over tired, but she gets a nap not too long before bed. She becomes totally inconsolable and its awful!

She's been generally horrendous since i moved her sleep time but I'm certain that's to do with a growth spurt, she's 8 + 4. The other night she slept 8 hours straight - def growth spurt related.

Why is she going nuts at bedtime? What else can i try? Am i doing the right thing with the earlier bedtime?

Help!

If it was me I would forget about bedtime for now (she is still young for that at 8 weeks) and instead have an evening nap downstairs with you. Treat this as you would any other daytime nap. Then as you were, take her to bed at 10pm with you.

This is now I transitions my DD into a proper bedtime. She would have an evening nap. Then it became an evening fully asleep downstairs and barely stirring (aside from a feed) when I took her to bed. Then we started doing a bedtime routine (bath, PJs etc) at 7.30pm but still having her downstairs as just an extended nap. It was once this evening fully asleep was well established that we started moving the bedtime routine upstairs and into the cot. That happen around 4 months old I think.
