What is normal for an 11 week old please

What is normal sleep for an 11 week old? He is more like a 7 week old as he was 4 weeks early and it really shows.

He sleeps much of the day but very very little at night. We cant get him to sleep in his cot, he only ever wants to sleep in his pram. I feel like we have tried everything, hoping you can help or at least tell me what your babies did at this age!

I would try and break the pattern of sleeping too much in the day, I know it's easier said than done but he has probably just got his night and day mixed up! When my little boy was 2-3 months old he was having about 1 hour at 9ish, another hour at lunchtime and 45 mins-1hour at tea time, always awake by 5pm at the latest and in bed no later than 7. I would then get up by 7-7.30 the next morning even if I had fed him 5-6ish and top him up then. It is hard if they have been up during the night but it meant he was on track for the day and he started going down much better at night and sleeping for longer stretches so I got sleep at night when I needed it! I would also wake him up for feeds if asleep during the day - (roughly 7am, 11am, 3.00pm, 6.30pm, 11pm) he was fed roughly every 4 hours, and he would then normally wake for 1 or 2 feeds during the night. It did take a while to get into this routine though and I know every baby is different, but this worked for us

DD was having 3 naps spaced throughout the day and had just started sleeping through. She was 2 weeks overdue mind you.

DS - his sleep was all over the place, and, his nap times only really settled at around 5 months old, and he only started sleeping all through the night with no waking at all at about 10.5-11 months.

All babies are different. He's only young yet, do what you need to get him to sleep right now, and give him time to settle into his own pattern.

Well I've got a 3 month old little boy, I've managed to get him used to a night-time routine of having a bath at 6:30 then a bottle then going to sleep at 7, I then wake him at midnight to feed and he wakes at 4 for another but then gets up about 7am.
The bit I'm stuck with is daytime naps..... he naps throughout the day on his bouncy chair and not at set times and when I try to take him to his cot to nap he won't settle. I;ve tried letting him drop off on his chair and then putting him in his cot but as soon as his bum touches the cot he's wide awake!!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated :-)

Hi Eeny

George is 11 weeks (but 9 really as was born @ 38 weeks).

His pattern is once he has had a feed (which is feeding every 2-3 hrs) he will be awake for about an hour then sleeps till next bottle, saying that his last feed at night is 11pm and he sleeps right through till 9am (dunno why, guess just luck) BUT he is still in moses basket at moment and i swaddle him (only at night).I am going to have to put him in the cot soon though which i hope doesn't disturb his sleeping pattern.

Do you swaddle Alex? How about a dummy? try a bit more stimulation in the daytime, have you got a baby gym thing? George loves his.

Alex doesnt seem too interested in his baby gyms or anything yet but every day I hope he will want a little more play time.

I think its right he has got his night and day mixed up, I need to get him to start sleeping in his cot!

ds is 11 weeks and i feel very confused about his sleeping, losing my way a bit. last night fairly typical at moment so here it is - asleep in cot at 7.15pm(went to sleep on me then transferred).awake for big feed at 2.30, asleep 3.20.awake again at both 4.30 and 5.30 and each time settled quickly still in cot with head stroking. up at 6.15, feed at 7am, quite happy to wait.very cheerful and alert-usually is.i tried for 50mins to get him off to sleep in cot at 9, hemanaged 7mins.did sleep in cot 10.30 till 11.05.still very jolly, doesn't often get grumpy. not sure whether this is good/bad/normal-very little daytime sleep in particular a bit worrying?would also like to not have to get up so much at night by now.very into baby gym and looking around.

try really making a distinction between night and day

Day feeds are light & a bit noisier..telly on, talking, phone ringing etc...and mummy is happy to talk to and stimulate LO

Night feeds are dark, silent, no eye contact and no stimulation...try swaddling too....the security of being swaddled can help a LO settle...

keep putting him down in his cot at night..or wherever it is you want him to sleep...mine slept wherever they fell asleep in the daytime until they were 6 months or so, then i started putting them in the cot for the daytime nap..

sometimes you just need to persevere for a few days ....

My dd can sometimes sleep for long periods during the day - Hv suggested not letting them go longer than 4 hours between feeds during the day - otherwise they will want more food and less sleep at night - might be worth waking him up??

I am just about to wake him up now!!! He has been asleep for ages and he is due a feed and I want him to play a little so he sleeps tonight.

At that age, FWIR, DS was just getting into sleeping for 3 hour stretches. It didn't last long and we soon reverted to the normality of 2 hour stretches. I think Lulumama is right - and if it's any consolation, many sleep experts agree that getting day & night mixed up is a) relatively easy to fix and b) a promising sign for longer stretches of sleep once day & night are in their proper places.
