Travel cot mattress safety

Our 10wo baby has already outgrown his Moses basket and we don't want to put him in his own room yet as he's not yet sleeping through and I feel it's a bit early for him.

We've bought a travel cot for our room as a stop gap to save us having to dismantle and rebuild the cot in his nursery. The mattress is really thin and I'm worried it won't support him properly as he'll probably be on it for a few weeks at least. I've read previous posts suggesting adding folded up sheets to provide greater support.

Does anyone know, is it safer to put them under, or on top of the mattress? The cot is the red kite sleep tight which has ties with Velcro to attach mattress to underside of cot.

Any advice appreciated!
Thanks

Google children's mattresses online. They do made to measure or standard size. Good quality with washable covers. Really recommend.

A folded blanket is ok for amweekend away but i think its probably better to buy a separate thicker mattress like this and then it will be fit for use for a long time. Check the size first if you do this.

Placing baby on a low base cot like a travel cot may prove to be much more problematic and difficult than you imagine. It may well me much easier to dismantle the cot and have it in your room.

if not, get a mattress to put in it

U can get a travel cot mattress on Amazon for about £20. We got it for ds as he uses his travel cot 2-3 times a week when at the childminders.

Definitely get a proper mattress if its going to be the main bed for now. My parents have one for the travel cot at theirs and we always take it with us if we're ever going away as it is so much better than the standard ones.

Check eBay for cribs? We got a John Lewis Troll crib on eBay for DD2.

I don't envy your back if you need to soothe him at night, just a week away did mine in!
