Night terrors?

My DD is 5 mo and every few weeks she will suddenly start with screaming when she has gone to sleep. It's a cry we don't hear at any other time. When we go in she is still asleep but she keeps crying and screaming. If we pick her up it takes a while to settle her. Are we right to pick her up and cuddle her if she is still asleep? Or is it best to leave her. It's very upsetting to see

Usually the advice is provided they are in a safe place and can't hurt themselves then you shouldn't wake a baby or anyone having a night terror episode, they aren't fully awake even if they make look it and suddenly coming around to someone holding you or touching you who they may not even recognise at first can be quite scary for them. And you when you get lobbed in the face Grin

I remember being told to make sure anyone having a night terror fully wakes up after having one otherwise they can slip back into it, much like when we wake up having a dream and then fall back to sleep and it continues where it left off.

I'd probably struggle to follow the advice of leaving them to come around naturally myself tbh, especially at that age Sad
